Ripped jeans were first used by rock stars and pop music singers in the 1980's and 1990's but it gained massive popularity in the time period of 2014-2017. The trend of ripped jeans took fashion icons and social media influencers by a storm and almost every single model or influencer was seen wearing ripped denim jeans at numerous occasions and events.

How the trend started?

The punk movement of the 1970's first introduced the culture of ripped jeans as ripped clothes portray an expression of cruelty of the society and injustice and it became a symbol of political movement.

At first only the fans and followers of punk and rock culture started following the ripped jeans trend and they started this by ripping their denim jeans by themselves, later in the early 2000's clothes manufacturers started making ripped jeans as the demand grew gradually, manufacturers used lasers or tailors to rip their jeans.

 How it went viral?

In 2014 the ripped jeans culture picked up popularity in the masses as many celebrities were seen wearing ripped jeans at various occasion

Kendall Jenner

Kim Kardashian

As soon as these pictures went viral, the demand of ripped jeans went sky rocketing and jeans manufacturers were unable to meet the demand in time, people went crazy and many major designers such as Gucci and Versace followed the trend and started offering designer ripped jeans at luxury prices.

Where to wear?

Ripped jeans are a part of your casual dressing, these add a spice to your daily dressing and this makes them superior to the basic denim jeans.

You must avoid wearing ripped jeans at formal occasions such as weddings and funerals or court hearings etc. Many schools and colleges have also banned ripped jeans as they show body exposure thus banned by educational institutes.

Where do Ripped jeans stand in 2020?

The demand graph shows that the trend of ripped jeans is declining and is no more popular than it was in 2015-16 but still manufacturers are producing ripped jeans and people are buying, the hype might have died down but now the ripped jeans culture has become a norm and anyone can rock these jeans.

Ripped jeans are now replacing normal jeans and many of the people now prefer ripped jeans rather than wearing normal jeans as ripped jeans add a brave and frim look to your visual personality.

Ripped jeans will not only remain in the fashion industry but they will also remain in the consumer market for ever but their demand can go up or down in the long run. There is no denying that the ripped jeans will remain a highlight in the fashion industry in 2020 and even after 2020.
